Fatai Olukoga, Special Assistant on Education to
Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola of Lagos state, has stated that the
Lagos State University, LASU, which had been shut for over two months,
will be re-opened in the next one week.
The SAE, who has been under fire in recent weeks over allegations of connivance with some people to impose a Rector on the Lagos State Polytechnic, LASPOTECH, told Naij.com in an exclusive interview, that discussions on the date for the re-opening of LASU is within touching distance as discussions are ongoing.
Speaking
in his office inside the Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja, Tuesday, Olukoga
insisted that those who are involved in the LASU crisis have allowed it
to drag for too long, hence the continuous delay of academic activities
in the institution.
But with the parties involved in crucial talks, the Ikorodu Indigene has set a week deadline for the re-opening of the institution.
“The issue here is between the unions and the school management and the reason it has been dragging is the refusal of all the parties involved to reach a compromise.
“But, I can assure you that there is serious dialogue going on between the parties involved presently, and a compromise shall be reached sooner than later,” he explained
Asked for a date he thinks the institution would be re-opened, Olukoga stated with assurance that, “within the next one week, the issues would have been resolved and the school re-opened for activities. That is the situation right now as far as LASU is concerned.
“The students’ agitations are not quite difficult to handle. The major challenge is with the unions and I believe that an agreement will soon be reached“.
It would be recalled that some members of staff recently pelted the VC of LASU with sachets of water, asking him to leave the premises of the institution.
